Early Childhood Laboratory School

NAEYCLogoSmEarly Childhood Laboratory School

The nationally accredited Housatonic Early Childhood Laboratory School has a two-fold purpose: a high quality, pre-school program for the young children of students, faculty, staff, and the community; and a laboratory setting and resource for HCC's Early Childhood Inclusive Education Program and other disciplines in the college. It is located in Lafayette Hall in LH-B137near the Broad Street entrance.

To enroll, children must be three years of age by December 31 of the calendar year in which they enter the School. The School is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 50 weeks a year.

As a laboratory setting, the Early Childhood Inclusive Education faculty assigns HCC students a variety of activities and observations that need to be completed at the Laboratory School. The director, teachers, and teacher assistants evaluate these activities and/or answer any questions that the college students may ask. Students from related fields also use the Laboratory School as a resource for fieldwork and papers.

Applications for children are available in the Early Childhood Laboratory School, the Business Office and the Admissions Office. Limited Housatonic Community College Foundation Scholarships are available for the children of students. Children are accepted into the Program on a first come first served basis. The Program serves children with disabilities and from diverse racial, ethnic, economic and ability backgrounds. For further information, call the director of the Early Childhood Laboratory School at 203-332-5030.

Voting Questions

What You Need to Know About Voting

Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022

  • Voting gives you power
  • Voting is a way to make your voice heard
  • Voting is a way to bring about change

This Election Day, Nov. 8th, you will be voting for Members of Congress – representatives and senators – as well as state and local officials. In Connecticut, you will also be voting on a proposal to allow early voting in-person. Currently, Connecticut is one of only six states that does not allow early voting in-person before Election Day. If the proposal passes, the state legislature will establish how early voting will work – but first, it needs to be approved by Connecticut’s voters. The question on the ballot will read,Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to provide for early voting?”

VOTE!  You have the power to make a difference.

####

Here is some information from the CT Office of the Secretary of State and the League of Women Voters of CT to help you ensure that your vote is counted.

You must be registered by Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022 to vote

You only need to register once unless you move to a new town.

How do I know if I am eligible to vote in CT? You are eligible to vote if:

  • You are at least 17 and turning 18 on or before Election Day
  • You are a United States citizen
  • You are living in Connecticut
  • If you have been convicted of a felony and you completed confinement and parole, and, if applicable, paid all fines in connection with your conviction

How can I find out if I’m registered to vote in CT?

Click on https://portaldir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx to find out if you are registered and, if you are, where you vote.

How do I register to vote in CT?

You can register online – you need a CT driver’s license or state ID: https://voterregistration.ct.gov

You may also click here to print out a voter registration form. Complete it and return it to your local Registrar of Voters.

I am a student. Where should I register to vote?

You can register to vote in the town where you go to school if you live there. Or, if you want to vote from your “home” address, you can get an absentee ballot from your home state. But you can’t do both. For more information check: https://portal.ct.gov/SOTS/Election-Services/Voter-Information/Student-Voter-Fact-Sheet

If I registered a couple of years ago, do I need to re-register to vote?

You only need to re-register to vote if you moved to a new town within Connecticut or a new state. You will need to update your registration if you moved within your town and/or changed your name. You can make these changes online.

What if I forget to register to vote?

Although the deadline to register to vote is November 1st, Connecticut allows Election Day Registration (EDR) during general elections. Most Election Day voter registration locations will be different from your polling place. It is more complicated. Check here for more information:

https://portal.ct.gov/SOTS/Election-Services/Election-Day-Registration/Election-Day-Registration

Do I have to register for a party to vote?

No, you do not have to register for a party to vote in a General Election. You only have to register for a party if you want to vote in a primary.

How Do I Vote?

  • You can vote in-person:

When you register to vote you will be assigned a polling place based on where you live. Polls in CT are open from 6 am – 8 pm on Election Day.

You can check to find out where your polling place is: https://portaldir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx.

  • Or, you can vote by absentee ballot:

If you cannot vote in person, you can vote by absentee ballot. You need to apply for an absentee ballot. You can apply online: portal.ct.gov/SOTS/Election-Services/Voter-Information/Absentee-Voting.

Follow the instructions about completing your absentee ballot carefully. When you are finished, mail it to the town clerk where you live. Make sure to give plenty of time (at least one week or more) for it to get to the town clerk. The ballot must be received by 8 pm on Election Day.
